What are the various perceptions and implications of AI Art among different individuals and communities?

The growing buzz around AI Art and its potential impact on the art world caught our team's attention. We felt the need to delve deeper into this emerging technology and explore its ethical implications. To gain a comprehensive understanding, we reached out to artists and technologists involved in the AI Art space to get their unique perspectives.

We realized that there was a need to bring these perspectives to a wider audience and build awareness of the potential impact of AI Art.

Our project aims to be inclusive, informative, and thought-provoking. We want to engage people from all walks of life, from art enthusiasts to those with a keen interest in technology to educate them and encourage meaningful discussions about the potential impact of AI Art.

Solution

Literature review

As a crucial first step in our project, we conducted a comprehensive literature review to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of AI Art. This included studying news articles, research papers, and reports on the subject. We also delved into the laws and copyright documents related to art to better comprehend the legal framework around AI Art.

Insights

• User Research

Our target demographic for the project included artists from diverse fields and countries, as well as AI-generated-image users and tech enthusiasts from various social media groups and professions.

To gather insights from these individuals, we developed an interview protocol to conduct in-person or phone interviews.

Additionally, for participants who preferred a survey over an in-person/call interview, we created a survey equivalent to gather their perspectives and opinions on AI Art.

• Research Findings

Given the diversity of our target users and their varied perspectives, we carefully reviewed our transcripts and notes to identify common themes and insights. Using this information, we created an affinity map that helped us to better understand the perspectives of our participants and gain valuable insights.

Brainstorming and CONCEPTUALIZATION

As a team, we aimed to remain impartial and present both sides of the AI Art debate in a balanced way. Our goal was to tell a story of our research findings and create a platform that could showcase the diverse perspectives we had encountered.

To achieve this, we started brainstorming and conceptualizing the user flow for our platform. We wanted to ensure that our platform could present a range of views and opinions on AI Art in an organized and engaging manner.

We also wanted to create an interactive experience that would allow users to explore the topic at their own pace and engage with the content in a meaningful way.

Storyboarding

After finalizing the user flow, we proceeded to create some sketches and perform storyboarding for the narration of our project.

We wanted to ensure that the visuals and storyline were aligned with the user flow and conveyed the research findings in a clear and compelling way. The storyboarding process helped us to map out the different scenes and transitions, and identify any potential gaps or inconsistencies in the narrative.

• App Objectives

Simple and intuitive user interface

Allow users to easily navigate the app and engage with the narration in a seamless and enjoyable way.

Showcase diverse perspectives of people involved in AI Art

Provide a comprehensive and balanced understanding of the emerging field and promote open dialogue among users.

Present the research in neutral and unbiased manner

Promote a balanced and comprehensive understanding of the complex issues surrounding AI Art.

• Design System

• Prototype + Usability Testing

During the prototype phase of our project, we conducted multiple iterations to showcase the narration using news articles and social media platforms. To ensure the usability and effectiveness of the app, we conducted three rounds of usability testing with 12 participants and incorporated the feedback we received into significant changes and improvements to the app's design and functionality. This iterative process allowed us to refine the app and create a final product that meets the needs and expectations of our target demographic.

Takeaways

Conducting user research with a diverse range of viewpoints is highly valuable : Gaining insights into diverse viewpoints across various demographics regarding AI-generated images has been a crucial takeaway. This experience has shown me the importance of incorporating user research into the design process to understand the needs and preferences of different user groups.

Embracing iterative prototyping and preference testing to validate assumptions : Through this process, I learned that adopting a user-centered design approach is critical to creating successful products. I also realized that what may seem obvious to us may not be so for the users, which highlights the importance of gathering user feedback and incorporating it into our design decisions.

It is important to be unbiased and transparent : We understood that there were ethical considerations that we needed to consider when it came to AI art, such as ownership and copyright issues. As a result, we made sure to incorporate these considerations into our design and to address them in a transparent and unbiased manner.

Lastly, it was an enriching experience collaborating with this amazing team! 💪
