How can we create a solution to simplify and improve event planning and attendance experience?

Upon moving to the United States, I found myself in a new environment without any friends or relatives nearby. Being someone who loves socializing and meeting new people, I was unsure of what to do on weekends or where to find exciting events happening around me.

I strongly felt that having an app that could provide a centralized platform to access information about upcoming events in my area would not only make my life easier but would also provide a sense of community and belonging by enabling me to explore and engage with the vibrant events scene in my new city.

Competitive analysis

To start with the research, we analyzed 4 direct competitors for event finding - Eventbrite, Meetup, Bandsintown, and Fever.

Insights

One common potential area of improvement for all event apps was to simplify and streamline the user interface to make it more intuitive, user-friendly and easy ticket purchasing process.

Many event apps offer a wide range of features, such as event discovery, ticket purchasing, and social networking, which can sometimes result in a cluttered and confusing interface.

By simplifying the interface and making it more user-friendly could result in higher user engagement and retention, as well as a better overall user experience.

• User Research

We conducted a survey to understand more about our users and their requirements by asking them questions like how often do you attend events? what types of events are you most interested in attending? how do you typically find events to attend? We got 23 responses and a lot of insights from those.

Insights

Ticket purchasing and ease of use: They expressed frustrations with the current ticket purchasing landscape and be looking for an app that can streamline this process.

Comprehensive event information: Users expressed a desire for event finding apps to provide comprehensive event information, such as detailed event descriptions, pricing, location, and reviews.

User experience and design:
Users were unhappy with current event finding apps that are difficult to navigate or visually unappealing.

• Analysis

By mapping the users' thoughts and emotions, behaviors and actions, as well as what they hear and see, we were able to identify their pain points and gains. This exercise provided valuable insight into the users' actions and behaviors, enabling us to establish a common understanding of their needs.

Takeaways

Attention to details : One of my biggest takeaways from this UX project is the importance of paying attention to the details of design. Throughout the project, I found that focusing on the typography, color, and spacing helped to create a consistent and polished look and feel. This attention to detail also helped to improve the overall user experience, making it easier for users to navigate and engage with the design.

Embrace iteration and be open to feedback and criticism : Another key takeaway from this UX project is the importance of embracing iteration and being open to feedback and criticism. At times, it was challenging to receive feedback and make changes to the design, but I found that by doing so, I was able to create a better end product. By embracing iteration and being open to feedback, I was able to identify and address issues early on, which helped to improve the user experience in the long run.

Always keep the user's goals and needs in mind and make sure your design aligns with them : Finally, I learned that it's important to keep the user's goals and needs in mind throughout the design process.

What would have I done better?

Detailed screens for mobile and watch view : Due to time constraints, I focused my efforts on creating detailed designs for the desktop view and was unable to create comprehensive screens for the mobile and watch views. Despite this, I learned a great deal from the experience of designing for different screens, each with their own unique challenges and opportunities.
